Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant"
is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist."

I don't get it. Are you trying to say that there are no such things as "unlicensed pharmacists" or that the term is a nonsense one?
There are many unlicensed pharmacist training programs. I just did a quick Google search and found the term "unlicensed pharmacist" to refer to a graduate of the Johns Hopkins pharmacy program. These unlicensed pharmacists train under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Why do you seem to have a negative image of unlicensed pharmacists? It is a very good possibility that the person you get your medications from were, at one time, unlicensed pharmacists. They are very much real people with real and important duties.
Interestingly enough, I think the increased proliferation of labels in the last 10 years has done more to identify the person labeling than the person the labels are intended to identify.
FWIW, I'll split the difference and continue calling them "illegal immigrants."
I agree, matt. I also think that the crowd that espouses the "why are the PC folks so afraid of words" rhetoric seem to be afraid of words themselves.
Undocumented: lacking documents required for legal immigration or residence
Immigrant: person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence
I'm just not seeing how "undocumented immigrant" is an inaccurate term. It's awkward, but still semantically correct.
I usually go with "illegal immigrants," as well.
